If you’re reading this, it is because you’ve lived healthily enough to reach another Thanksgiving. Everyone is thankful for something and in this case, you may be thankful that you and your loved ones are all together once more. None of this would be possible, though, without beating hearts.
Unfortunately, there is a shortage of beating hearts in the United States and throughout the world. Each year, only about 6,000 heart transplants are performed worldwide, and the waiting list for heart transplants is 4,000 names long in the U.S. alone. That means many people die annually because there are not enough hearts to go around. As the world’s leading killer, heart disease denies many people years with their families.
We know what you’re thinking: what if there were enough hearts to go around? That’s a great question, and one BIOLIFE4D is working to directly address. We plan to 3D bioprint transplantable human hearts from patients’ own cells, increasing the supply of available hearts and eliminating the problem of organ rejection. It’s a two birds, one stone solution to one of humanity’s greatest threats. We’re well on our way, having already successfully 3D bioprinted human cardiac tissue, and are currently working on a mini heart.
As world-changing as this may eventually be, we need investors in order to make it happen. Our technology can mean so much to so many people, and we believe these people will consider personal and family experiences in deciding to invest in 3D bioprinting human hearts. After all, this is not just any investment – it is a chance to solve one of our greatest challenges and directly save millions of lives.
